Strengthening Instructional Leadership Through Clarity, Alignment, and the IPG

Course Description

This course supports Nebraska principals in strengthening their leadership identity through the lens of instructional clarity and aligned leadership systems, with a central focus on the Instructional Practice Guide (IPG). Participants will examine how their personal leadership vision connects to the Nebraska Teacher and Principal Performance Standards (NTPPS) and how the IPG helps translate that vision into daily instructional practices that improve teaching and learning. Principals will explore how clarity of expectations, feedback, and instructional focus shape school culture and student outcomes.

Participants will learn what the IPG is, how it defines rigorous, standards-aligned instruction, and how it can be used to guide walkthroughs, coaching conversations, and professional learning. By integrating the IPG with the SEED Compass and the MTSS Problem-Solving Cycle and Leadership Framework, principals will move from awareness to implementation and develop a coherent, systemwide approach to fostering consistent, high-quality instruction across their schools.

Learning Objectives

  1. Reflect on leadership identity and current level of instructional clarity
  2. Analyze school systems to identify strengths, misalignments, and areas for improvement
  3. Clarify and communicate a vision aligned with instructional priorities
  4. Understand and apply the NTPPS Vision for Learning standard
  5. Connect their vision to the IPG as a calibration and implementation tool
